WHAT IS INTUITIVE EATING?

Intuitive eating is an anti-diet approach to restoring your relationship with your body and food.

You may have heard that 98% of diets fail and might be ready to dive into Intuitive Eating, but still wonder what Intuitive Eating actually is and what therapy would look like.

Intuitive Eating centers your body as the expert on what it needs (rather than some new fad diet) and works on restoring your trust with your body cues. Through therapy, you'll learn how to:

  • honor your hunger and fullness cues

  • cope with your emotions

  • stop attaching morals of "good" and "bad" to food

  • move your body in a way that feels enjoyable rather than punitive

  • integrate nutrition information in a gentle and flexible way

  • discover the satisfaction factor and enjoy eating

  • (most importantly) redirect all the time and energy you've spent on dieting into other things you want to do with your life

You can read more about Intuitive Eating here.

WHAT IS HEALTH AT EVERY SIZE?

Health At Every Size (HAES) is a social justice oriented approach to weight that prioritizes health promoting behaviors over weight loss or a specific number on the scale.

Health At Every Size acknowledges the stigma and discrimination people in larger bodies face every day. We frequently hear about racism and sexism, but discrimination based on body size ("sizeism") is often left out of the conversation. HAES acknowledges the pain sizeism causes, as well as how our bodies fight to stay at their "set point weight". HAES acknowledges thin privilege (akin to white privilege) and how even someone who holds thin privilege can be dissatisfied with their body and struggle with an eating disorder.

LICENSE AND EDUCATION

LICENSED SOCIAL WORKER ASSOCIATE & INDEPENDENT CLINICAL (LSWAIC)

License number: SC60848910

2018

MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK, NEW YORK UNIVERSITY

I often incorporate conversations surrounding oppression and privilege into sessions. If we aren't acknowledging the societal effects of racism, sexism, classism, ableism, ageism, and sizeism on our lives, we're leaving out a huge piece of the equation.

2015

BACHELOR OF PSYCHOLOGY, BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY

I have a strong interest in research and evidence-based treatments. I am also familiar with Mormon culture and happy to talk about these subjects if it's something you'd like to incorporate into your treatment.
